Secondary Language Arts Teacher

Inspire secondary students to love Language Arts!

This is an immediate full-time opening for this position and it is also open for 2024-2025.

Roles for Curriculum and Instruction:

  • Abide by the established curriculum. If change is needed or desired, submit recommendations through appropriate channels.
  • Regularly review curriculum guides and plan lessons to meet course priorities and goals. Where curriculum guides are not developed or underdeveloped, provide input for curriculum guides.
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans containing learner outcome/objectives, an instructional plan, and resources to be used.
  • Design and maintain a positive, pleasant, and nurturing classroom environment. This includes regular preparation of bulletin boards and classroom displays.
  • Maintain effective classroom discipline, taking care of minor problems personally and referring major problems to the principal.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods including technology, audiovisuals, field trips, and special guests to meet lesson objectives.
  • Assign homework supportive of the classroom program and that is within the policies of the school.
  • Implement modifications and/or accommodations for students with special needs in partnership with administrators. Follow IEP plans as developed by CRICS teams of counselors, administrators, teachers and parents.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Effectively oversee the learning process in the classroom.
  • Oversee responsible use of school property including textbooks, supplementary texts, materials, and supplies.
  • Supervise students at lunch or breaks, immediately before or after school, on the playground, and at school activities outside school hours as assigned.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and/or outings, as assigned.
  • Supervise standardized tests as assigned.
  • Supervise and or co-sponsor a homeroom class as assigned.
  • Teacher may be given responsibilities such as department head or extra curricular assignments (student council, coach a team, lead a choral or instrumental group outside the regular schedule, be involved in drama productions, student ministries after school and on the weekends, serve on a curriculum committee, etc). These activities may be considered as part of a teacher’s supervision and count towards a teacher’s overall work load.
