Beyond Borders is committed to supporting non-formal educational opportunities for asylum seekers on the island of Lesvos. In 2018 we began our work on Lesvos with a goal of creating safe healing and learning spaces for adults, children and families. Our informal learning programs included adult EFL classes, an early family intervention program, day STEAM camps, and a school readiness program. 

Since September 2020, we have been partnering with a local non-governmental organization to provide an educational program for approximately 450 children in the new camp, Mavrouvoni. We use a trauma informed approach for teaching English as a foreign language, incorporating expressive arts and peacebuilding themes into language instruction and acquisition.
