Deputy Head of School

We are looking for a Christian educator who will help lead the school in achieving established school improvement goals and who wants to develop their leadership skills.

The applicant will be a Christian educator who will help lead the school in achieving established school improvement goals while maintaining the effective and efficient operation of the school within the context of a holistic approach to education. We are looking for someone who wants to develop their leadership skills and has aspirations to move into whole school leadership in the future. The candidate should have at least 2 years of teaching experience and a valid teaching qualification.

International Educational Services is a K-12, policy governed school focused on serving a specific segment of the international student community. The school is governed by a school board elected by the parent body.

Qualificatons:

  • Experience & Education
    • Essential: 5 years experience in an educational environment
    • Essential: 2 years experience in a middle-level leader role, such as Level Lead, Department Lead or Team Leader
    • Essential: Experience teaching English or any other core subject at the Middle or High School level
    • Recommended: Experience in at least 2 schools
  • Character:
    • Committed Christian who demonstrates evidence of the fruit of the Spirit and a desire to serve
    • Recognizes the role of the school in the present and future ministry of the church locally and globally
    • Fully endorses the 'Statement of Faith' and philosophy of the school, and believes in the vision of the school (to primarily meet the educational needs of a specific segment of the international community)
    • Able to work comfortably with a multi-denominational community; respects diversity while upholding the school’s distinctly Christian philosophy of education
    • Approachable by teachers and staff, parents and students; flexible in nature, patient in character
    • Spiritual depth and exhibits Christ-likeness in words, behavior, and attitudes
    • Able to handle diverse opinions and points of view
    • Healthy and able to handle stress
  • Strengths:
    • Goal-oriented: Able to determine and coordinate steps to achieve desired goals. Makes decisions that are consistent with goals
    • Interpersonal skills: Able to listen and relate well with a variety of people, while holding to the policies/procedures of the school; able to maintain a professional, yet caring demeanor; able to resolve conflicts in a biblical manner, with love and grace
    • Communication: Discerns communication needs and disseminates information effectively and efficiently
    • Flexibility: Able to work with a diverse population and diverse educational systems; able to handle unexpected situations and interruptions with grace and sensitivity

Responsibilities: 

The primary responsibility of the Deputy Head of School is to implement the vision and mission of the school, as determined by the Board. This is accomplished through (but not limited to):

  • Supporting the Head of School in running the school
  • Lead a level at the School 
  • 40% teaching commitment
  • Take a lead in developing the curriculum provision for students across the school
  • Observe and coach staff to help them improve their teaching
  • Provide spiritual leadership and foster an effective environment for discipleship and spiritual growth for students and staff
  • Employ and supervise academic and operations staff, as necessary, to effectively and efficiently operate the school
  • Contribute to the professional development of staff
  • Provide input, guidance, and supervision for the transition to a new school facility 

Expectations:

  • Relate to, interact, and engage with varying and diverse segments of school families who come from many cultural backgrounds
  • Work effectively in a management team (able to delegate and empower others) to lead a diverse K-12 international school with 200-300 children
  • Communicate effectively with the parent and school (student) body
  • Process diverse opinions and viewpoints and handle criticism in a Christ-like manner
  • Raise some level of support to supplement salary from the international school (a plus), and sees this more as a "ministry calling" than a "job" (required)
  • Have a desire to see all students achieve and be able to coach staff to improve their teaching
  • Be in agreement with the vision, mission, and values of the International Education Services (available upon request)
  • Undergo annual Performance Review

This is a full-time position with an expected 5-year commitment (minimum 2-year commitment)
