The Instructional Aide will assist Elementary students and teachers in the classroom.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required, if the person is on a CRICS work permit and visa
• Training in a specialized area related to student needs
• Possesses skill sets related to the classroom topic or developmental level of students

Responsibilities:

• Build relationships with the students in an appropriate manner
• Look for ways to be of help in the classroom setting even without being asked
• Possibly help with some minor grading
• Receive training for helping students with specific needs
• Follow teacher’s instructions
• Regularly checking in with students to assess need for support
• Understand classroom routines and manage if teachers need to step out
• Plan and implement pull-out mini lessons for selected students
• Communicate clearly with teacher when doing pull outs or helping students
• Help to develop and follow a student’s individualized education plan, which is aligned with the classroom teacher’s lesson plan
• Assist students with as many elements of typical classroom work and activities as possible
• Provide instructional support, such as reading questions or repeating instructions
