English Language Learner Coordinator

Duties Include: 

  • Coordinate and administer (or oversee) English language assessments for new student applicants to the school who are from non-native English speaking backgrounds. Assess and interpret testing data (WIDA), providing reports and feedback on potential applicants to the Admissions Committee.
  • Support English language learners (ELL) with instruction in English as needed. This may be through scheduling pull-out classes, individual instruction, in-class support or online reading programs (such as Reading Eggs or Reading Plus).
  • Implement an English Language Learner program designed to fulfill the requirements of support and instruction for all English learners.
  • Coordinate or administer end-of-year English language assessments (WIDA) of ELL students for the purpose of evaluating progress, promotion, and instructional needs in the next academic year.
  • Determine if ELL students will be classified as “ELL” in the next school year based on their end-of-year English language assessment (WIDA scores); completing their grade-level on any assigned reading programs; and the recommendation of their homeroom or humanities teachers (LA and SS).
  • Maintain records of all ELL students and report their status to the registrar, financial office, teachers, and administration before the beginning of the school year.
  • Interpret student performance data (from MAP scores or other available sources) and implement appropriate support structures.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to support students experiencing academic performance challenges related to English language learning, including gathering materials as needed to help support ELL students within the classroom.
  • Oversee online reading programs and student progress. Print off any certificates and motivate ELL students to continue reading throughout the year.
  • Record grades for middle and high school ELL support classes.
  • Supervise ELL aides and volunteer tutors, providing them with instructional guidance, teaching strategies, and materials to best service individual student needs.
  • Communicate and confer effectively both orally and in written form with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. When needed, have written communication translated into Thai or Korean for parents.
  • Use audiovisual aids, computers, and or other interactive technology to supplement and support lessons.
  • Maintain records of admission testing for up to two years to provide comparative data of language proficiency and development.
  • Plan for and monitor department expenditures and develop budgetary items.
  • Organize professional development opportunities for faculty when needed.
  • Attend CRICS faculty meetings; training sessions; in-service days, etc.
  • Maintain an inventory of materials and equipment specific to ELL.
  • Be available for parent communication, either directly or through email, especially at the beginning of the year (open house evening).
