Student Support Teacher - Middle School

Essential Duties:

  • Provide intervention as needed (academic, executive functioning, social/emotional)
  • Write goals and intervention plans
  • Coordinate and train support staff/volunteers to provide push-in support
  • Collaborate with teachers on providing in-class support for students
  • Collaborate with teachers on modifying and accommodating lessons and assessments
  • Facilitate a separate setting for tests and provide accommodations such as a reader or a scribe
  • Collaborate with the MSD Student Support Team (SST) regarding intervention plans
  • Teach alternative classes for core subjects as needed
  • Communicate with families about student plans and progress
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Be a role model to students through personal presentation and professional conduct.
  • Arrive in class, on or before the start of the lesson, and begin and end lessons on time.
  • Cover for absent colleagues as is reasonable, fair and equitable
  • Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues and staff.
  • Be involved in enrichment activities, after school clubs and visits.
  • Liaise effectively with parents/carers and with other agencies with responsibility for students’ education and welfare.
  • In conjunction with the principal and curriculum director, take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with research and developments in teaching pedagogy and changes in the curriculum, which may lead to improvements in teaching and learning.
  • Undertake any necessary professional development as identified in the Faith Academy Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP) taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available.

Carry out reflective practice exercises to move classroom practice, teaching and learning, forward.

Qualifications:

  • A four year degree in special education or an undergraduate teaching degree with a master’s in special education or related field
  • Experience providing intervention and writing goals
  • Knowledge regarding diverse needs of students (academic, social, emotional, behavioral)
  • Ability to work well with children and other adults
  • Communicates effectively in written and spoken form
  • Desire to expand the reach of the gospel
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Growing relationship with Christ
  • Desire to grow professionally
